20 Bible Verses About God as Your Helper

Fear not I am the one who helps you

When my children were little, I would help them cross the street by holding their hands. As a parent, I saw potential danger everywhere. Cars and trucks zoomed by, and I worried that one of my children might dart out into traffic, or that a careless driver would fail to see us. But when their little hands were in mine, they were safer. I was the one looking out for the dangers they could not see. Because I was bigger and stronger, I could also pull them out of harm’s way if I needed to. When their hands were in mine, fear (both theirs and mine) about safely crossing the street was greatly diminished.

When we talk about God helping us, we’re reminded that he shows his children personal, protective, and fatherly care. Often, our need for help is tied to something we fear, and so we cry out to him. What a comfort that the one who helps us also tells us not to be afraid! Even more comforting—he holds our hand! Isaiah 41:13 says, “For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, ‘Fear not, I am the one who helps you.’”

Do you need God’s help today? You can cry out to him for help because he’s all-wise, all-powerful, and all-knowing, and there’s nothing too hard for him. Consider these 20 verses to start your study, and be encouraged that God wants to help you!

He delights in helping you!

Sometimes we’re reluctant to ask for help because it reveals our weakness. (Directions, anyone?) But instead of looking at it through the lens of what you lack, focus instead on the strength of the one who supplies. God is able to help us because he has no weakness or lack. And isn’t it good news that even though he has no need and no weakness, he still delights in helping us? It’s in our weakness that his strength is made perfect (2 Cor. 12:9).

So, go ahead and ask for his help! God is your inexhaustible helper, and it’s his joy to help you!
