It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is right aro

It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is right around the corner.

It’s my favorite holiday and season, but it sometimes takes me a while to get into the Christmas spirit.

We’re all gearing up to get our to-do lists, and shopping lists done, and even in those good things, we can lose sight of the reason for the season.

We want to steward our time, talent, and treasures, wisely, and we want to worship the Savior!

I’m still pinching myself, but here’s some fun

I’m still pinching myself, but here’s some fun news… I signed a book contract with Christian Focus Publications this week! 🎉❤️

Getting here has been a roller coaster of emotions. At first, I was overwhelmed and doubtful I could write a book proposal. Then, I was nervous about letting others read it. I wondered if I would find an agent (I didn’t), then disappointed by rejection (I had several).

But God. Those two wonderful words.

He had a plan for me and this work, and Christian Focus believed in my idea. I’m humbled and nervous but mostly excited about what’s in store. (Like I said, it’s been a roller coaster of emotions.)

I’m thrilled for this opportunity, but I feel the weight of this task, my many limitations, and my desperate need for grace. I need SO MUCH GRACE, so would you please pray for me? The road ahead will be long, but I know the Lord will provide. But God.

(If you’re wondering what the book is about, it’s about pursuing holy leisure. Of course. 😉)

Staring at a blank page is one of the most frustrating aspects of writing. Internally, you run through a series of questions and answers that sometimes help you get started and sometimes paralyze you with doubt. Even the blinking cursor seems to mock you as it waits for words to fill the page.

Writers who desire to honor the Lord in their craft are not immune to these struggles. We long to create something good, true, and beautiful, but it rarely comes easily.

Sometimes, we need clarity about what we're doing and why; other times, we need encouragement from a friend who understands.

In this week's article, I attempt to offer you both: help to figure out the who, what, when, where, why, and how of writing and a community of friends who know and understand the struggle is real.

I've been studying 1 Peter this summer, and I'm in awe of the encouragement it's been to my sojourning soul.

Observing the world lately, I'm more aware that this is not my real home.

1 Peter was written to early Christians scattered throughout Asia Minor.

Peter called his beloved readers “elect exiles” because they were suffering for their faith and longing for their heavenly home.

Desiring to encourage them to live victoriously while trusting the Lord, he identified three living things they had in their sojourning.

You also have these things, Christian: a living hope, the living Word, and the living stone–Jesus Christ himself.
