Do you ever feel that time in God's Word is a duty Do you ever feel that time in God's Word is a duty more than a delight? 🙋🏻‍♀️Been there. That's the story behind my book, The Pursuit of Holy Leisure.

Recently, I had the privilege of sharing at my church how you can find REST in Christ through holy leisure. I hope you'll give it a listen. 🔗 in bio
Paul said, "Whatever you do, whether you eat or dr Paul said, "Whatever you do, whether you eat or drink, do it for the glory of God" (1 Cor. 10:31). Under the umbrella of 'whatever,' we can include writing and other creative endeavors. I've written a new @youversion Bible Reading plan called "Writing as Worship: Truth, Goodness, and Beauty for Christian Writers." It's free. It's under NEW plans, and it's also right here. I pray it elevates 'whatever' you write as worship to God! 🔗 in bio

✨About last night ✨ I’m still trying to come down ✨About last night ✨
I’m still trying to come down from the emotional high of sharing with the women of @christchurchaz. Over the summer small groups of women met in homes and in coffee shops to read and discuss The Pursuit of Holy Leisure, and last night’s Women’s Gathering was the capstone of the summer.

I shared part of our story and my journey with holy leisure. I shared how when we moved to Arizona, we didn’t know a single soul, and how I never wanted to teach or stand before a crowded room.

But God.

Last night, as I looked out at a sea of faces I know and love, I realized it was a full circle moment. To say that I’m grateful and thankful doesn’t even begin to capture the fullness I feel in my heart. 💕

Here’s to remembering that God hears all the longings of our hearts, he knows all the sadnesses, and he fulfills dreams beyond what we can imagine.

He’s the author and the finisher of our faith and he writes the best stories of all!

God’s grace is so evident in their story and we can't wait to welcome Emili @mylifeonmission to our loud, obnoxious, and crazy-fun family! Here’s to the future Mr. and Mrs. Ray 💍🥂
Do you ever say to yourself, “I’ll read my Bible, Do you ever say to yourself, “I’ll read my Bible, after I ____ (fill in the blank).”

You have every intention of sitting down and spending some time with the Lord, but first you have to check your email, fold some laundry, and pack the kids’ lunches.

Before you know it, those good intentions are lost to an endless list of to-dos and interruptions.

I’ve often wondered if Martha had similar intentions. Maybe she had planned to sit at Jesus’ feet, but first... she needed Mary’s help to fix lunch for Jesus and his disciples.

That story is so relatable, isn’t it? We get Martha. We feel her, and maybe on most days, we are her. But Jesus reordered Martha’s priorities and reminded her that devotion should precede service.

Or in the words of St. Augustine, holy leisure comes before holy service.

That’s the topic of the following article, which I wrote for @desiringgod .

One thing’s for sure... life gets busy, and when it does, we need to keep abiding and sitting at Jesus’ feet.

In so doing, we put holy leisure before holy service, and Jesus says that’s the good portion.

Before you can write something good, true, or beau Before you can write something good, true, or beautiful, you have to learn to see it.

Writing isn’t the source of the Good, the True, and the Beautiful — it’s a response to them.

Holy leisure is the posture that lets a writer actually slow down long enough to perceive what’s already shimmering in plain sight.

So, writer friends~📝

If you want a way to bring that posture into your own writing life, I made something for you:

The Writer’s Examination

It’s a free guide that walks you through the Good, the True, and the Beautiful as you sit down with your own work.

It’s part question, part prayer, part craft tool — built to help you ask better questions of your writing before you ever ask whether it’s “good enough.”

Grab it free — link in bio. 🔗

And let me know...how do you consciously keep goodness, truth, and beauty before you as you write? Curious minds want to know! 🧐#thepursuitofholyleisure #writingasholyleisure #goodtruebeautiful #goodtrueandbeautiful #christianwriters
