“He emptied himself."

Does the phrase ring a bell? 🔔

You might've heard it or read it from what we call the "Christ Hymn" in Philippians 2:6-11. Paul tells us that in eternity past, Jesus laid aside his divine rights and privileges to be born in the likeness of men and to be found in the form of a servant. HE EMPTIED HIMSELF. 🫙

This season is one of desiring to be filled, but often finding ourselves emptied, again and again.

Dear friend, if that sounds like your experience, you're in good company.

He who laid aside unimaginable wealth and privilege and came humbly as a baby to one day die for sins began his incarnation by emptying himself.

It's the most beautiful phrase for the most amazing act. ❤️

Come to the self-emptying Savior and find in him the fullness you want and need this Christmas.

He wrote this…

“In the four Gospel accounts given to us in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John - eighty-nine chapters of biblical text-there’s only one place where Jesus tells us his own heart.” He said he’s gentle and lowly in heart.

I read that line in his book “Gentle and Lowly” and I was hooked.

Today, I got to tell Dane Ortlund what a profound impact his words have made in my life.

I tried really hard to be cool and not fan girl too much, but I don’t think I succeeded. 😂

I asked my daughter how I did, she laughed and paused for a second before offering a half-hearted, “You did O-K.😉”

I asked him what his advice would be for me as a writer, and he said read good books.

I guess I’m off to a good start after reading his. ❤️

I love that verse.❤️

It’s a disruption verse. Everything was going along as usual in Jerusalem and BEHOLD there was a man name Simeon…

Simeon was different from all the rest of the men in Jerusalem.

He was watching and waiting for the Consolation of Israel.

Do you ever feel like that? Like Simeon?

Like you’re waiting and watching for comfort and encouragement to come.

I feel a little like that today. I’m reminded that Simeon in his waiting was expectant-never wavering from his belief that God would fulfill his word.

I hope this will encourage you that that while you wait to be like Simeon- righteous and devout.

I grew up going to youth group in the 90s.

It was reiterated to me time and time again how important a daily quiet time was for my daily growth as a Christian.

But somewhere along the way, it became something I had to do vs. something I wanted to do. It was my duty more than it was my delight.

If you've ever felt guilty for not having a regular rhythm to your quiet times, and sometimes not wanting to do it...I get you!

Statistically speaking...this is a real issue for Christians. But, we're to be people of the Word, so we must spend time in it.

If you want to grow in this area of your life, this post is for you. I've shared some of my story, and some resources that I hope will help you, as they've helped me.

Don't settle for the struggle. It can and will change if you change your mindset.
