20 Bible Verses About God’s Provision

God provides for you

“What do you need right now?”

That might seem like a loaded question. You might be able to list a half-dozen things you need, including help meeting next month’s rent, filling up your pantry, and finding peace amid trying circumstances.

But did you know that the Bible makes astounding claims about God’s care, or provision, over his creation (which includes you)? When you put your faith in Christ, you become united to him as his child, and he cannot not protect, provide, and care for you. The double negative is on purpose. In other words, it would be impossible for him not to do what his Fatherly duty and delight requires; that is to take care of you, his child.

Our Father always takes care of us. In the Old Testament (and throughout the Scriptures), we see the amazing ways God provides. One of the first instances is in the story of Abraham and Isaac. God commanded Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, to test his love. When taking his son up the mountain to make the sacrifice, Isaac asked where they would find the sacrifice. Abraham’s response is, “God will provide for himself a lamb for a burnt offering” (Gen 22:7). The term “God will provide” is translated, Jehovah-Jireh. We know that God provided for Abraham a ram in the thicket to sacrifice, instead of his son, Isaac.

But Jehovah-Jireh is still at work today and takes care of you too. Jesus said, “If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him” (Matthew 7:11). As his child, you can pray big, bold, even demanding prayers to God, and he will answer.

So what do you need right now? Perhaps you need a renewed perspective of all that is yours because you are his child. Consider this list of verses of God’s provision for you and be encouraged that God sees your needs and wants to show himself faithful to you!

Waiting for his provision strengthens faith muscles

“Rest assured that the Lord, who daily provides for the millions of fish in the sea and the myriads of birds in the air will not suffer his own children to perish for lack of the things of this life.”

Charles Spurgeon

Being in a position when we need God to provide is uncomfortable. It requires we wait and relinquish what little control we think we have over our situation. However, it’s in those uncomfortable times of waiting and dependence on God, that we get the privilege of seeing him work and move on our behalf. As we wait, our faith muscles grow!

Friend, I hope that these verses stir your heart with hope as you wait on God for him to meet your needs today. If you are in Christ, your greatest need has already been met in the finished work of Jesus Christ. Praise Jehovah-Jireh for his provision.
